. . . . . . . . . . . . . Keys, an only child, was born Alicia J. Augello-Cook in the Manhattan neighborhood of Harlem, in New York City, New York, the daughter of Teresa "Terri" Augello, a paralegal and part-time actress, and Craig Cook, a flight attendant. Keys' mother is of Irish, Scottish, and Italian descent and her father is Jamaican
Keys' parents separated during her early childhood, and she was subsequently raised by her mother during her formative years in Hell's Kitchen, also in Manhattan In 1985, Keys and a group of other girls played the parts of Rudy Huxtable's sleepover guests in an episode of The Cosby Show called "Slumber Party". She began playing the piano when she was seven, learning classical music by composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, and her favorite, Chopin.[citation needed]
Keys graduated from the Professional Performing Arts School, a prestigious high school in Manhattan, as valedictorian at the age of sixteen. Although accepted to Columbia University with a scholarship, she decided to drop out and pursue her musical career. Keys signed a demo deal with Jermaine Dupri and his So So Def label, then distributed by Columbia Records. She co-wrote and recorded a song entitled "Dah Dee Dah (Sexy Thing)", which appeared on the soundtrack to the 1997 blockbuster, Men in Black. The song was Keys' first professional recording; however, it was never released as a single and her record contract with Columbia Records ended quickly. Keys later met Clive Davis, who signed her to Arista Records, which has since disbanded. Following Davis to his newly-formed J Records label, she recorded the songs "Rock wit U" and "Rear View Mirror", featured on the soundtracks to the films Shaft (2000) and Dr. Dolittle 2 (2001) respectively. Keys then released her debut album, Songs in A Minor.. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

.............A synthesizer specialist, Badarou is best known as the longtime associate of the British band Level 42, known for its blend of funk, pop, soul and rock. He has co-written, performed on and (later) co-produced a number of the band's tracks since its debut album in 1981. Though not an official member of L42, he's long been considered an informal "fifth member" of what has otherwise usually been a quartet led by star bassist Mark King. He can be seen in the video for "Love Games" on the Level 42 - The Collection DVD. . . . . . . . A friend of Chris Blackwell (Island Records founder), Badarou also worked on albums by Joe Cocker, Mick Jagger, Grace Jones, Robert Palmer, Marianne Faithfull, Herbie Hancock, Robin Scott "M" (Pop Muzik), Talking Heads, Foreigner, Power Station, Melissa Etheridge, Sly and Robbie, Black Uhuru, Jimmy Cliff, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Gregory Isaacs, Manu Dibango, Miriam Makeba, produced albums of Fela, Salif Keita, Wasis Diop, Trilok Gurtu, Carlinhos Brown, and wrote movie soundtracks (part of Hector Babenco Kiss of the Spider Woman most notably). . . . . . . . . . . . . In 1989, he acted as musical director and composer for Jean-Paul Goude memorable show on the French Revolution Bicentennial. . . . . . . . . . . . . . In 1991, Massive Attack Daydreaming (from the "Blue Lines" album) was largely sampled from Mambo ("Echoes" album, 1984). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . In 1997, he helped setting up the All African Music Kora Awards, and produced & co-wrote "So Why" for the ICRC, along with Youssou N'Dour and Papa Wemba, a call against ethnic cleansing in Africa. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The current decade is one of getting confronted with the challenge of stage acting. A demanding passion he seems willing to devote his time to, along with an array of other demanding ones, such as aviation, cinema, science-fiction and philosophy. . . . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . Ragtyme was the original formation of the group, "Ten City" from Chicago. . . . . . . . .... Ten City was a Chicago, Illinois based dance-pop/house music trio who enjoyed a number of club hits and Urban radio hits in the eighties and nineties. Lead by vocalist Byron Stingily, the band also included guitarist Herb Lawson, keyboardist Byron Burke and producer Marshall Jefferson. Ten City's debut album, "Foundation" became their only album to crossover, peaking at #49 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. . . . . . . Of their ten entries on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, they are best remembered for "That's the Way Love Is," which hit #1 in 1989 and is still considered to be a House classic today. Stingily, who left the group and became a successful solo artist, rerecorded the song and brought it back to #1 on the dance chart in 1999. . . . . . . . .

Compton's Most Wanted are a gangsta rap group and one of the pioneers for the West Coast hip hop scene still performing today on independent label's. The leader of the group was MC Eiht who would later become a solo artist and The Unknown DJ. * * * * * * *C.M.W. included rappers MC Eiht and MC Chill, turnablist Ant Capone but was later replaced by DJ Mike T and producer DJ Slip. The Unknown DJ was also a producer for the group however not officially a member. Their first three albums It's a Compton Thang, Straight Checkn 'Em and Music to Driveby were produced by DJ Slip and The Unknown DJ, who produced both Electro funk tracks as well as Ice T's classic gangsta song "6 In the Morning". Despite producing many tracks. MC Chill was an original member of C.M.W. at the time of their first album It's a Compton Thang, but was sentenced to prison in 1991 before Straight Checkn 'Em was released. He was released out of prison in 1994.* * * * During the time in prison he missed C.M.W.'s two biggest succéed albums "Straight Checkn 'Em" and "Music to Driveby", each of included songs like "Hood Took Me Under", "Def Wish", "Straight Up Menace" and "Growin' Up in tha Hood". After 3 years behind bars MC Chill didn't have the chance to return to the group as they broke up following Music to Driveby. Instead Chill decided to work with MC Ren and MC Eiht for their solo albums. In 2000, the group joined forces again and released "Represent". They are known especially for their slow, often melancholic raps, using samples from seventies soul and funk records such as "Joy" by Isaac Hayes and hit songs like Ice Cube's "It Was a Good Day". MC Eiht is pursuing his solo career, while DJ Slip is mainly working for the new West Coast label IV Life Records.* * * * * * Additionally, C.M.W. are set for a reunion which will feature on DJ Slip's next album "The Minority Report". In 2004 Hood Took Me Under appeared on the popular videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and was played on the West Coast hip hop radio station Radio Los Santos. Ant Capone was supposed to be a member of the group while they released It's a Compton Thang, but was later fired from the group and replaced by DJ Mike T and never appeared on their debut album. In 2006 the group released a fifth studio album called, Music to Gang Bang which didn't sell well.

Hip hop culture, including rapping, scratching, graffiti, and breakdancing. In the 1930s more than a sixth of Harlem residents were from the West Indies, and the block parties of the '80s were closely similar to sound systems in Jamaica. These were large parties, originally outdoors, thrown by owners of loud and expensive stereo equipment, which they could share with the community or use to compete among themselves, who began speaking lyrics or toasting. ****** Rap music emerged from block parties after ultra-competitive DJs isolated percussion breaks, those being the favorites among dancers, and MCs began speaking over the beats; in Jamaica, a similar musical style called dub developed from the same isolated and elongated percussion breaks. However, "most rappers will tell you that they either disliked reggae or were only vaguely aware of it in the early and middle '70s." * * * * * * * *Lastly, most existing hip hop acts were shocked when King Tim III's throwback to radio DJs rhyming jive and the Sugarhill Gang's appropriation of rap on their remake, not sample, of Chic's "Good Times" were released, as most DJs and MCs knew each other and many had been attempting to record.
